It started with a community that loved their dogs. The Campus Commons neighborhood near CSUS and the American River is a wonderful area for its human residents, but for their canine companions, there was no where to run. Several attempts were made to convert an unused green area into a confined space for dogs, but requests were turned down by the homeowner’s association. Finally, a request was put in to the Sacramento City Council and a portion of the land that butted up against the American River at Howe and University Avenues was dedicated to be used as the University Avenue Off-Leash Dog Park. Once that was done, money needed to be raised to make it a reality and that’s where I came in.
